How does self tanner look after being in the water all day?
I am a regular user of self tanner. However, I do not normally stay in the water for a long period of time. This holiday weekend I am going tubing and will be in the water all day. I am worried about how the color will come off and how it will look at the end of the day. Can anyone tell their experience w/this?
As your skin “sheds” you will lose your self tan. On average, our skin is 22 layers deep, and replenishes every 30 days. So, we lose about 1 layer every day.
I forget how deep the self tanners penetrate, but prob 10-15 layers. If you are in the water all day and/or rub a lot, you may lose a bit more, but prob. only up to 2 layers rather than one, so it prob. won’t make too much of a difference.
All that aside, your best bet BEFORE using a self tanner is to exfoliate first. That will help you shed 2-3 layers before you use the self tanner. That will do 2 things for you: 1) make your self tan more even (both while it’s applied and while it’s fading) and 2) allow the self tanner to penetrate a bit deeper so it will last a bit longer.
